Annual Fish Fry Returns with Success

An update about the 11th Annual Fish Fry, from Fish Fry coordinator, Ken Zaveckas

If you were eating fish these past few Fridays, there was a good chance that you did so at our 11th Parish Lenten Fish Fry. It was the first full five-date inside event in 2 years and it was a total success.

True to its humble beginnings, it continues to be an opportunity for the Parish and community to enjoy our faith and fellowship together. It is not a fundraiser and the Fry supports itself, returning all proceeds to the Parish. Despite some bad weather, some disruptions in the food chain, the lingering effects of covid, and inflation upon everything, we made it work and were given great support by the Parish as well as the community, with many first time visitations.

I would like you to specifically note your Fish Fry Volunteer crew, the majority of whom has been with me since our first Fry in 2012:

  • Thursday Prep Crew: Cherie & Paul Colomb, Nancy & John Newbold, Bonnie Isenberger, & Grace Zaveckas.

  • Friday crew: Biff Rosensteel, Karen & Ed Szoke, Andrea Switzer, Gaby Cranga, Nicole & Matt Redding, Mary & Riley Redding, Connie Canute, Regina Hollar, Suzanne & Mike Landis, Kay Walters, Tony Redding, and Frank Tharp.

  • Special Thanks to Barbara Redding who supervised for me on March 11th, due to illness.

  • Thanks to Becky Seig & Kim Reiner for the fantastic group of kids from our school. Hoping you noticed, they ran the take-out station, served the drinks & desserts, assisted our seniors in obtaining their meals, and one, Victor Salazar, helped KP the pots & pans all five Frys. You parents should be proud of them! They include Noah Flickinger, Kaitlyn Synnamon, Caroline Kelly, Catherine Kelly, Michael Kelly, Olivia Kelly, Samantha Mejias, Rebecca Williams, William Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Conor Adams, Ann Straus, Kendall Rohrbaugh, Victor Salazar, Kiefer Stiles, Olivia Knox, Maria Marchak, Margaret Smith, Josie Switzer, and Paola Aviles. One of them may take my place someday and we will celebrate them this month!

  • The Ladies of the Parish AGAIN stepped up with their donations of culinary deserts and baked items thereby saving me the expense of having to purchase them. They include Connie Canute, Winnie McMaster, Julietta Booz, Barbara Onofrey, Cherie Colomb, Jeanne Blaker, Nancy Newbold, Regina Hollar, Cheryl Guy, Teri Gelles, Bonnie Isenberger, Maary Redding, Lucy Jucak, Helen DeFayette, Rita Tuchalski, Gina Fraschetti, Jaime Synamon, Harriet Glass, Connie Trump, Laura Potter, Kay Walters, Barbara Heim, Donna Kreiger, Katie O'Farrell, Emilie McGinnis, Christine Ciparik, and Megan Cellucci. I hope I got you all!

  • Kathy Reid donated additional trays of deserts along with 20 gallons of fresh pressed apple cider.

  • Nicole Redding donated the cocktail and tartar sauces.

  • We received more monetary donations than ever before including Maggie Mondejar, Gerri Markle, and Grace & I. MANY donated who wish to remain anonymous.

  • Deliso’s Pizza AGAIN prepared 40 pizzas at cost to the event. Please remember them in your patronage.

By the numbers:

We returned to our Parish $9,023 with 1,094 people attending. Our eleven year total is now at $63,585 with 10,857 dinners being served using 5,346 lbs of fish.

Deliso’s has partnered with us since the very beginning and we are proud to support them!
